It's possible, I think it had something to do with the Mac saving a 
Photoshop file without the .psd extension. Even after adding it back in 
on the PC it opened fine in Photoshop but when I tried to relink things 
in AE with the new file it just would not find any new layers. I seem to 
have this knack at finding weird AE issues. Ultimately I had to just 
muscle my way through the 8 comps, relinking as I went. It was about 50 
or so layers but there were at least 50 or more comps to deal with so 
the pain was only an hour or two's worth. Still what a titanic pain in 
the butt.
