Not just because I'm greedy, but because software always takes longer than you expect it to. And really, the work to nurture POM will go on for decades if it is as successful as OpenEXR. The more money I can raise, the more energy I can devote to it. I want to raise enough so that I can really get it off the ground, but then I don't want to set the levels so high that it's unattainable. I really don't know how to calculate that number, so I am very open to opinions about that. Ditto if you think the perk pricing should be altered. My guess is that with something like this where the end product is free, there probably won't be many donations after the goals have been met. I guess the magic question is: how many people can we expect to contribute, and how much can we expect from them on average? Brendan |
