Not sure if this will help, but have you tried creating a new fresh comp, then importing just that PSD? Â
Maybe if that'll work, then you could save that project separately and then import the project into your original project?
I've had a rare case where this would happen and the new project into the old project actually worked for some reason.
Good luck.

All,
I'm working on animating movie posters, so If often inherit incredibly complex 100+ layer photoshop files.
I have one now that I just cannot import into AE. It's 300MB file, but I've imported files 5 times that size before.
This one DOES have a dizzying amount of curves, levels, color fills and virtually every type of adjustment available. I've done my best to flatten as many sections as possible.
AE brings it in and I see the Comp and the folder, but then the black arrow cursor sits there with a white tip and doesn't change. A minute later I get the beach ball and have to force quit.
I've tried this with two different versions of AE on two different computers--same problem.
Is there some specific PS adjustment layer that is KNOWN to mess with AE?
I have 17GB allocated to AE, and cleared all the chaches and stuff.
