I’ve pasted a mask as a motion path into the emitter’s XY position. My custom particle is an arrowhead made from a shape layer. I’ve reduced the emitter’s velocities down to zero and reduced the particles/sec count to 12 so I get a simple stream of arrow heads drawing on along a the pasted path.

If it *is* just a case of a "simple stream of arrow heads" why not just use an arrow head character - Wingdings font for example, type as many arrows as you need, paste in your path, and use the text > path options + first margin property to push them along?
