Scott, that's how I'm already doing things, but I was looking for something with even fewer clicks. Sorry if I wasn't explaining it very well. I was looking for exactly what rendernyc said - I thought there had to be a way to snap a layer to parent like in most other 3D apps.

Just tested, and that is awesome, it works great. And location stays put after unparenting. Can't believe I didn't know that

This is something that still slows me down. Say for example I have a long fly-through and need to build out a new section. To create a new layer in the zone of 3D space I'm in, I usually duplicate another layer close by and then drag it to the desired position. Then I'll alt-drag the new asset to the duplicated layer, so that it is replaced with the new footage. The nice thing is that the layer comes in with all proper switches and effects. But there are lots of problems with this method, like if it's a shape layer (with no source) or has different dimensions.

So instead, I have recently been setting this up with Sure Target 2 rigs. I'll duplicate the most recent target null (used as the camera focal point) and then copy the anchor point position and orientation from the null to the new layer. But I still have to select the layer, type P then Shift-R to get position and orientation, copy the keys and paste to new layer.

Is there a faster way to do this I'm not thinking of? by parenting / unparenting -> zeroing transforms like in C4D?
