I render out of AE uncompressed then compress the video file in Media Encoder. Often I have to publis my video multiple ways, for example to vimeo, youtube, and other formats. This way seems to save me time in the long run.

 

I am open to trying a different process.

I don't like using AME because it takes more time and not as fast as AE. 

(you have to wait for the programs to communicate with each other - sending the file to AME, canceling and such. its not immediate as AE.

 

if I need another session open of AE , I just use the -m on the command line

 

AME requires you to have the master switches enabled  for instance you wont get motion blur of frame blending

 if the master switch is off - what you see is what you get and not quite sure about proxies too.

 

about quality - I found rendering HD resolution files (720p) for preview purposes h264 with 5CBR suffice and other purposes I use QT Animation or Png Sequence right from AE,

and maybe that file I compress with sorenson or AME.

Put me down for render history too. It is an essential part of my workflow. I often re-render the same compositions as things change or get updated. I also lay out segments of a comp for discreet renders and can sometimes just re-render a segment or two. I also work in multiple languages. Once the comps are set in one language, I can reuse the same comp and render settings for the other languages as well, making a minor change to the file name and perhaps changing the destination. That saves a lot of time.

 

AME comes in handy for transcoding when I can just set up a batch and walk away. I find it takes what seems to me to be a long time to load the clips to be transcoded into AME, however.

I never use AME for anything. On the occasions where I've tried it I've experienced longer render times and sluggish performance generally. I automatically reach for MPEG streamclip for compression or batches. I've not tried AME on CC though and my current employers are using it so I'll try it again.
