True comp duplicator - AE scripts

with tons of linking to a master controller. 

the thing is when I duplicate the master comp because I need another kind in the same AE session (lets call it Pie_01 and Duplicate and Renaming it Pie_02) - all of those nifty expressions get broken (because they all reference to the comp and it doesn't get changed in the expression editor for those layers when I duplicate) 

and I see no other way but going one layer's expression at a time and changing the reference comp to a different name or do it in another session, pre render it and import as a movie - what I eventually did.

can someone show me the light please?

either there is something I missed when I wired this linking mechanism or something

that I can do after the fact. for instance making all those expression change to a comp

of my choosing by using layer control expression of some sort.

and on that subject - is there a script or a way to re-link broken expressions after you messed it up but clicked "undo" - I have always wondered...
