Not sure if this has been mentioned here before but Mavericks introduced a feature called App Nap which is meant to save power and I think all applications have it on by default when installed. You can go to the Get Info panel of the app and check "Prevent App Nap", that may be the source of the slow rendering problem anyway…

One of our 12 core macs was updated accidentally to Mavericks (not sure of the version number) and it is incredibly slow with the latest AECC point update. We actually found CS6 rendering almost twice as fast for the same project file. So far it hasn't been a good combo on that machine, which use to be the best one is the office.

Interesting - but I just double-checked and this machine is still on
10.9.2.  I'm glad you mentioned the 10.9.3 thing because I was
considering updating to see if that would help. Maybe not.

you sure you did not install the 10.9.3 update?

i’ve seen a lot of people complaining about lag, beach ball etc after upgrading - some say it’s apple’s fault with a bug in the system scheduler or something - can be made worse with wacom drivers  etc…

i have 10.9.3 but haven’t done a lot of heavy stuff since i upgraded and no wacom any more but i’ve not seen anything laggy yet under light use

just wanted to mention it just in case you upgraded it and kinda slipped your mind

I'm having a sluggishness problem as described in the subject line. I'm
on a Mac Pro 12-core, 64gb RAM, OS 10.9.2.  This is a new behavior; the
only recent System change I have made is an update to the Adobe Cloud
application.  From within AE and other applications, I am getting the
beachball and a long wait before the dialog box appears and populates. I
can jump to other applications and generally function otherwise.  I'm
googling around for ideas but wondered if anybody here can shed any
light.  Thanks.
