There's not a lot of harm in doing both, but some folks find that Auto-save is annoying when it saves at inconvenient
times. We try to make it so that it only _begins_ an auto-save operation when you're not in the middle of doing something, but it can be irritating to have the auto-save begin just as you were reaching for the pen/mouse to do something... especially if you
are working with a very large project file that takes more than a fraction of a second to save.

That is not a bug that I'm aware of, but I'll look into it.
BTW, Auto-save should only be thought of as an emergency mechanism for folks who haven't learned
good work habits yet. A much better way to work in After Effects is to turn Auto-save off and use the Increment And Save command frequently. This way, you have complete control of when the safety save is occurring, and there is no limit to the number of versions
of the project that can be saved in this way.

Just had a coworker realize that his autosave was not functioning correctly.
" When
the number of versions saved reaches the maximum you specify, the Auto-Save feature overwrites them starting with the oldest file.”
That
was not the case here. When he reached his limit it just stopped, it did not continue by overwriting the oldest one. Is this a known issue? I have since asked him to bump up the limit to something more than the default.
