Rick-- that's precisely how I built it out, built around pickwhip after the fact-- was just hoping it was an unnecessary precaution! Thanks for the tips!
Animation must be tied to a property to be saved as an animation preset. I have a fairly big library of raw expressions, I think there about 150 of them, in a a Google Doc Spreadsheet with descriptions and keywords so I can find them easily. I also have about 200 custom presets in a drop box folder with an alias so all of my animation presets are in sync on all my machines. This way, no matter where I am I don’t have to start from scratch for most expressions.
Here’s my workflow for my ‘universal’ animation presets. Apply the raw expression to the appropriate expression control, angle, point, color, slider stored on a null. Then you can pickwhip whatever property you want to the expression controller.
