If so, then purging the disk cache in After Effects CC 12.2 should purge all of the disk caches for the previous versions.
I can't verify that directly as I have manually removed the older point update cache folders already, but even if the option to "cleanup database and cache" may remove that, it still doesn't address the fact that the 12.0, and 12.1 preference folders are also existing. Which tells me that any and all AE CC point updates are being installed, are doing so as if they are unique major versions. That is not a good thing as it leaves behind files that will just sit and take up space. Previous major versions, say CS6 (v. 11.0) , when updated would maintain one folder structure for that version of AE regardless of the point version. Say 15 point updates take place down the line, there still is only one primary folder structure in place. Based on this find, if we had 15 AE CC updates take place, our computers will house 15 unique folder structures for one app. 14 of those not being used by anything ever again, since the newest point update has it's own structure to work from. That leaves caches, preferences, and whatever other AECC related hidden files collecting up over time. Most users are not knowledgable enough to hunt down and remove erroneous stuff like this, but even if they were it would be like having a friend of yours visit with their dog and it takes a dump on your property and they leave without cleaning it up. Only they hid it in the bushes or under the porch before leaving. Not very friendly of them is it. :)
I'm not saying Adobe did this intentionally, I'm sure it was an oversight during the chaos of coding, but it should be looked into before it becomes a bigger headache. David Torno Technical Director O: 213.739.2290 C: 818.391.6060 --------------------

Are you referring to the disk cache? If so, then purging the disk cache in After Effects CC 12.2 should purge all of the disk caches for the previous versions.-----Original Message-----

Subject: [AE] AE CC hoarding point updates?
I just came across an issue this morning when the infamous Mac "Disk space
almost full" message popped up. I was a bit confused as to why. After a bit of
detective work and disk scanning for large files I came across a MASSIVE
cache folder for AE CC, but not just CC 12.2, it also had 12.1, and 12.0. Is AE no
longer updating over the major version and cleaning up the mess of the old
version? I found that every single cache file since version 12.0 still existed. I
had over 185gb of space being used for no reason what so ever. Not cool.
Upon finding this, I also noticed that of course the preferences folder
followed suit, but only 2mb of extra trash here. So having a new folder
structure get created with each point release is a big slip in my opinion. If the
content was still accessible, that's one thing, but it can't, so there is no need
for it. I'm curious how many other extra AECC related folders exist that I'm
not even aware of.
Todd, can we find out if this is known/being looked into or am I missing a
check box that I should be clicking when doing point updates for AE CC?
Thanks.
