If you can find a used one (ebay / clist) the gtx 580 is actually quite powerful for ae raytrace and general 3d. And very reasonably priced. There is a 3gb edition that outperforms many newer cards, as nvidia gimped the cuda performance on later edition 6xx and 7xx series cards.
