I have the topped out 2014 retina mbp with 1tb ssd and fastest i7quad core, it is an absolute beast and very light. It comes in at about 55% performance of my high end, overclocked hex core pc workstation in terms of benchmarks. Which is extremely impressive. It is literally 2x faster than my 2012 i7 mac mini. It runs c4d very well. The only compromise is in gpu (even with 750m gtx), and cost. (Close to $3k with every option). But if you need the portability, performance and battery life on the job, it pays for itself.

I have never had a laptop or any sort of portable computer, my home machine has been an iMac for the past 10years. My current imac has just died and I'm now thinking about replacing it with a MacBook Pro and a big monitor.
In the past I have worked from home considerably but currently I do very little work from home, and so having a powerful desktop machine seems a bit old fashioned. Â The portability of a MacBook versus an iMac is very appealing. Storage is not an issue because I already use an external storage system anyway.
Any thoughts on the pros/cons of working with AE on a laptop- specifically a retina MacBook Pro - versus an iMac?
