That could be it but I swear I thought there was a bit about 'hacking' the ae preferences file to alter the default setting, which I agree would be really helpful!

Hoping one of the Meyers will jump in to give the final word!

I don't think there's a pref, or at least not an easily accessible one, for the default easy ease value - it would be a nice addition.

Maybe what you're thinking of was the keyframe velocity dialog - Ctrl Shift K / Cmd Shift K?
