if you are using the default keyboard setup, yes.

I'm, using a modified FCP version where I set command R to so the same. pretty sure you can also set up a seperate render selection command as of CC 2014. its worth your time to go thru the keyboard shortcuts as some really good functions have been added you might not be aware of since they aren't by default mapped to a key. my picks are :

nudge audio level up/down 1db
nudge audio level up/down 3db
nudge clip in track up/down track
render selection

there are a few more I'm forgetting for the moment.

the work bar for many was just UI clutter eating up screen space but either not doing much, or requiring extra actions to do the same thing that I/O did. AKA thats FCP style

Hi Larry,

Not sure I understand.  Just enter? You have to select a range first right?

Appreciate the many answers.  The little handles seemed helpful to me and I don't see where they get in the way at all.

I usually, as most do I presume, have a long series of things on the timeline and may render out various samples or portions of the whole.

If there is a shortcut to doing this, I'm all ears.  I did set the in and out to get by last night but that was menu driven so not that efficient.  At the time, I didn't check for keyboard shortcut on that. I was too focused on where the hell the handles went. lol

The best thing I like about the work area range is if you hit return, it will render anything in that range.
