I was getting bizarre Finder=0Acrash= es, infinite beachballs when trying to import any element at all=0Ainto AE,= even Disk Utility freezing up. I did a major update to my=0Abackups, did = a clean install of Mavericks and reinstalled all apps and=0Aplugins one by = one. That took most of a day.=0A=0AHowever the machine was still intermitt= ently unusable, even to the point=0Aof refusing to Shut Down properly. Nex= t thought was "bad RAM." I=0Astarted removing and swapping RAM sticks unti= l I narrowed it down to the=0Aone that seemed to be the culprit. Bam. Looki= ng good again.=0A=0AUntil today when the problem recurred. Long story short= , through Console=0AI traced the problem to a disk i/o error on an external= Firewire drive.=0AConsole is pretty great. I took the drive off-line and e= verything was=0Aback to normal.=0A=0AHuh. Machines.=0A=0AI learned that man= y symptoms can be caused by many things, not always=0Athe most "logical" or= the first thing that comes to mind. =0A=0ARobert W. Walker=0ALos Angeles C= A USA
