Here is what I think your problem is, your machine is starved for RAM - with dual hex CPUs that's 12 physical cores (or 24 virtual!!) chewing through RAM - I have a 3930K (single hex) and I had to upgrade to 64GB RAM to get decent preview length at full resolution in 1080p couple things you can try: - try lowering amount of RAM per core in MP settings (to 1 or 2 GB per) - Try previewing at lower res (third or quarter) - turn OFF hyperthreading on your CPUS in the BIOS OR limit AE to use 6 or 12 CPUS in MP settings - buy more ram. Honestly I would suggest 128 GB minimum for your setup On Sat, Jul 19, 2014 at 1:40 PM, Dirk de Jong wrote: > I'm working on a new machine and I have been encountering a problem I > haven't been able to solve and so I'm seeking more info and suggestions on > it. > > I'm working on some heavy comps and trying to take advantage of the Render > Multiple Frames Simultaneously (hereafter referred to as RMFS) option. How big is your hard drive cache set? What kind of drive i= s it on? SSD or HDD? Also does it work as expected with RMFS turned off?
Here is what I think your problem is, your machine is star= ved for RAM - with dual hex CPUs that's 12 physical cores (or 24 virtua= l!!) chewing through RAM - I have a 3930K (single hex) and I had to upgrade= to 64GB RAM to get decent preview length at full resolution in 1080p

couple things you can try:

- t= ry lowering amount of RAM per core in MP settings (to 1 or 2 GB per)
<= div>- Try previewing at lower res (third or quarter)
- turn OFF h= yperthreading on your CPUS in the BIOS OR limit AE to use 6 or 12 CPUS in M= P settings
- buy more ram. Honestly I would suggest 128 GB minimum for your setup=

I'm working on some heavy comps and trying to take = advantage of the=C2=A0Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously (hereafter refe= rred to as RMFS) option. It works great in helping me build PTRs much more = quickly - BUT - the problem is that with RMFS enabled after building a PTR = as soon as I stop the loop playback it seems to lose the PTR that it has bu= ilt - the green line in the timeline preview region disappears and if I try= to play my PTR again it will need to rebuild it again even though no chang= es have been made to the comp. Cached frames created by stepping around the= timeline or "normal" space bar playback persist as expected.

I've read some Help doc and watched Todd's expl= anation of the feature on video2brain, and I've tried various combinati= ons of RMFS settings and made sure to leave adequate RAM for other applicat= ions etc. but I can't seem to get the PTR cache to persist if I use RMF= S for my PTR. I've tried much more basic test comps to try to rule out = any specific source media or plugins etc. but so far I cannot isolate it an= y further than previously described here.

I'm hoping that this is not just a fact of life... = I did notice that there is a pref option for using RMFS only for render que= ue and not PTR...

Any insight or suggestions are m= uch appreciated. Thanks.
