Philip,  you need to update CS6 to the latest version and also add the 680 to the whitelist to allow AE to use it for raytracing

I recently installed the nVidia 680 graphics card (2GB VRAM, Mac Edition) in my Mac Pro 3,1 (2008, 8 core 2.8, 10.9.3) with no problems (got it from OWC for around $600). Though I haven't had a chance to stress it much yet with AE CC2014 or PR CC2014, it does "seem" better than my original 8800 card. I did notice that 3D raytracing option (using GPU) was available in AE CC2014, though I haven't actually done any work with that. Just now fired up AE CS6 and didn't see the GPU info I remember from CC2014 -- which is either me looking in the wrong place (not awake enough yet ;) or CS6 old enough to not recognize card.

Hope that's somewhat helpful, though woefully short on details.

-Philip.
