i was in a best buy a couple months back and there was a samsung UHD panel on the end cap of an aisle and the difference in the panel itself was stunning compared to the other sets on display.

it was 50, maybe 55", nothing enormous but everything about that panel stood out over the other sets.

the angle of view, colors, detail were all amazing and you dont have to be a pro to see that difference.

so while at that size resolution might not really matter mathematically, the panel itself was a major improvement over the HD versions

Yes, you're right if it's a pro that look at the video.
Most customers percive things in a different manner.
Even a 300 fps slow motion Full HD video have more impact than 4k video in my experience.

We shoot 4k half of the times but this, most of the times, is a choice we make for technical aspects (reframing, CK, track, etc).
As here the end use is always on 2k or less resolution most of the customers / agencies don't ask for 4k.

and the problem with theory vs reality is reality. having seen 4K many times ( shoot, edit, project all 4K ) there is a difference that you can perceive even under less than ideal viewing conditions. until you get to see good 4K I’d suggest holding off a bit on judgement as to if its worth it or not. 10bit color space is also a big deal which is part of the up coming standard for 4K.
