Great catch Chris! I forgot I was monkeying with the anchor points and that is exactly what I did. Much obliged!

Can only think to check the anchor point z value is 0, and that you’re only scaling the x & y axis. If the z value for the anchor point is not 0, and you’re scaling the z axis, then everything will shift in z space and your layers won’t
be where you think they are.
Okay, I admit not a normal setup, but I have a 3 Precomps 20,000 x 8000 precomp with 4 tiled bitmap layers (my usual workflow due to AE’s frame buffer limitations) set to
3D for collapse transformations. In my main comp, with camera parented to null. Precomps are arranged in Z-space for multiplane photoanimation but when I scale them to match original photograph – at certain seemingly arbitrary scale percentages they vanish
behind a layer that is thousands of pixel behind the layer being scaled.
I’ve setup similar comps many hundreds of times and not observed this before – checked does it in CC and CC 2014.
A film is – or should be – more like music than like fiction. It should be a progression of moods and feelings. The theme, what’s behind the emotion, the meaning,
all that comes later.
