I fixed this SOB. lol I was getting very close to having to reinstall my old Radeon card. I went through everything from reseating card, reseating RAM, etc. As far as I can tell, neither of those were issues. I updated BIOS which didn't help. I ran multiple older versions of the NVIDIA drivers. No help there. Here's what I found. The DDU recommendation which I am sure is a great tool does not remove all traces of the catalyst software and specifically, the IRQ assignments. I found traces of Catalyst software which Norton Utilities found and go rid of. But, I think the key item I found is when looking at IRQ assignments in device manager and discovered the AMD Radeon 9600 still assigned. There were no conflicts, like a red or otherwise highlighted problem. So, I uninstalled that, booted a couple times, reset CMOS, rebooted in to Safe mode and installed the drivers successfully to my sheer and utter amazement. I then checked in device manager to verify. Yes! It's there. I opened the AE project that would not previously open (with the Free Form Pro effect by Mettle applied) and it opened this time. Initial response seems much better than my old card. Thanks to all even if nothing seemed to work. :) Are there any settings in AE I should change now that I have a good card? Any GPU type stuff? Eric On Sat, Aug 30, 2014 at 12:58 PM, Mr. Eric D.
