i wouldn't think a 4:2:0 to 4:2:2 would need a colorconversion if it stayed in YUV (or more correctly lide david says Y’CbCr), just a simple upscale of the lower ret channel. But then as a regular user you rarely knows whats goes on in the code.

Didnt think of the 601 and 709 issue, so lots of places to go wrong.

and interesting about ProRes444 can either be Y’CbCr or RGB, but a bit bad that you cant really decide yourself on what to use.
What about the new flavour of ProRes, the XQ version? is that just a higher bitrate of ProRes444?

And that DNxHD444 is RGB i just have from the list in AME, it doesnt say that in the Avid QT plugin. So i just take Adobes word that its RGB :-)

I believe ProRes 4444 can carry either Y’CbCr or RGB. The problem seems that there is no flag to indicate one way or the other. So when a software try to decode it, it has to guess. It’s been discussed on other forums using DaVinci Resolve to master to ProRes 4444 and being able to move these files to other software with predictable output. The solution seems to test your particular workflow (original, intermediate and master codecs/wrappers with the different software/hardware in the pipeline).
