I second what Steve says; I'm in the middle of two hour long shows, multi-cam, various clips formats, 300dpi jpegs, etc. and rarely ever crash.

Most of the problems I've experienced with stuttering playback have been AJA driver issues. Make sure your video card drivers are current. The audio hardware settings can affect playback, too. You should only select your video card in the playback prefs, not in the audio hardware - SOMEBODY CHECK ME ON THIS. This is how it is in our systems....

The sporadic clips sound like disk access issues. Are you generating cache files? If so, where are they going? I HAVE had premiere slow down if its having to re-draw waveform caches.

Grab the error messages when you have import problems - or does it just crash?

Definitely follow Steve's advice. He's a smart feller.

Good luck,
D

I’m working a mixing / grading 13 1/2hr TVS right now. it does work ….

only setting for the GPU is under File->Project Settings->General be sure CUDA is set for accelerated playback. sometimes it defualts to OCL but that should be fixed in newer releases ( 8.0.x vs 7.x )

whats your full system config -

is it a particular media type thats giving you fits ? or on a particular drive ?

given the weird across the board problems you are having I’d suspect in more or less this order -

easy ones -

app wipe and reinstall,

CUDA reinstall with latest ver

video card drivers - match what’s recommended by CC as the minimum  version

more time consuming ones -

OS reinstall + drivers + apps

most time consuming - hardware problem -

are you actually taking power hits ? bad power has been the source of weird random crashes before. UPS helps, good PS in computer helps.

formatting of sector size on your array if using one, reformat with 4K sectors (PC)

heat problems with CPU’s & RAM - have your fans all running ? room temp reasonable ? looked at util that can monitor temps that they are reasonable  ?

bad hardware - PS, CPU’s, GPU, RAM, Mobo in that order

Hello,

I've been griping about premiere problems for some time.  Others have occasionally said they experience similar issues but I am not having luck with premiere at all.  Key problem - video either wont play at normal speed to review or most often times just simply doesn't show.  I get import problems all the time and always have to shut it down, restart, it imports fine then.  Some clips sporadically just show offline, etc.

I have the GTX780 card installed now, thinking that was going to be the solution to all my issues but not a chance.  If there are card settings for premiere that anyone knows, I'm open but I'm getting little use from it right now.  I can't do really any true editing, certainly no editing for sound.

Thanks,
Eric
