I was chatting about this with a co-worker, I recently had a difficult roto job that totally stumped me and I wasn’t happy with my end result.  He routinely outsources roto to freelancers and for anything serious it’s really best to use dedicated roto specialists.

In short, for complex roto you need to look beyond AE.  Most of the time the freelancers he uses are using Mocca, but he said that for really complex and difficult shots the point-cloud and projection / geometry tools in Nuke are the most powerful option.  Can’t tell you any more than that as it’s not my area, but that’s what he said...

Would Mocha Pro's remove tool be of any help? I've seen it do some pretty incredible cleanup. May not get 100% of it, but if it takes any painting burden off of you, it may be worth a try.

Trying to figure out how to remove a rig planted on the back of a racecar running around a track, that holds 7 gopro cameras. There is no clean plate, and obviously the road, shadows and lighting on and around the rig change constantly. it's shot at 80 fps on 7 cameras so manual roto is virtually out of the question. And budget.

Ive tried a track matte over the rig (which is fixed) with blurred clone strokes but the background changes too much.

Client does not want to hide the rig with a blur matte or cover up. Running out of options. Is there something I'm forgetting?
