Thanks for all your kind comments!
Stephen & Jim - I totally agree! It's SO important to like the song when you're producing a music video, and it's certainly a good test of the longevity of the song. I'm pleased to say that I still like this song after countless listens! I haven't done a lot of music video work, but have turned down two because I couldn't stand the song from the outset.
What made this particularly easy was working directly with the artist (who was a pleasure to work with) who is on his own independent record label, and only 3 of us being involved in the video. I imagine producing a video for a major record label can be very tiresome, having to get it signed off by countless managers and executives.
There's a long story behind how I ended up making this video, which I'll explain in the 'making of' article, but it's been one of those rare dream projects where everything just comes together perfectly.
It was a lot of work, but working fast is one of my strengths, and the art director had a very clear vision for most of the scenes so there was very little experimentation - it was mainly just a case of ploughing ahead creating the scenes. (I should point out it wasn't a continuous two weeks, but rather two weeks of working days in total (including a day on the shoot), spread over the course of the month.
Cheers,
Phil
