I used a WACOM nearly full time for a couple of years but have gone away from it for editing and AE because, for me, keyboard shortcuts and a mouse are faster and less frustrating than the tablet. Even when I used it every day I make far too many mis cues and had to use the undo a lot. I’m sorry but I don’t have any suggestions for modifying the shortcuts. I can only tell you that it took me months to figure out what worked the best for me but it drove a couple of other folks that used my setup absolutely crazy.

For painting and drawing a WACOM is another story. The tablet, and now my iPad Pro  +  Pencil + Astro Pad is much easier to use in Photoshop and Illustrator. I hardly touch the WACOM any more but I have the iPad Pro and Pencil open all the time. Astropad gives me a live view of my computer screen and I am nearly if not exactly as productive as I ever was with the WACOM and Photoshop. On a side note I’m making sketches and taking notes all the time with my WACOM Bamboo. It’s kind of a digital paper thingie that I bought just to play with but now it’s in my camera bag wherever I go and shows up for all client meetings. 

If I had a Cintiq (does anyone really know how to pronounce a word with a q ant the end?) I would probably use it but I am not sure it would be as handy or as fast as a multi function mouse for an NLE or AE. One hand on the keyboard and one on the mouse gives me access to the tools I need as fast as I can think about it.

Would I like AE and Premiere to work with touch screens and do I wish they were better? You bet, but that is a different discussion.

I don’t know if this helps you much. When I bought my WACOM it was a serious investment at nearly 10 X the cost of a mouse and I was determined to use it for everything. In the long run it ended up in the pile of un-used accessories that clutter my technology locker int he garage.

I find it a struggle using the pen buttons. I set them to right click (the button near the tip) and scroll/pan (the other one). It's makes me move my hand slightly (and the cursor as a result) when I want to use them. 

Scrolling with the mouse wheel is a feature I use in Ae all the time. I am missing finer control there. Right click is also used a lot. Do any of you have a recommendation for a pen setup?maybe pen holding posture that could help make this easier? Or is it just something to bare through for a while? What do you use? What is your tablet position setup?
