Remember when Fusion supported the After Effects plugin architecture?  This was way back when.   Was kind of nice for a while there to be able to run AE plugins in another host app, especially one node based.

Really nice to see it having a 2nd life, since I always felt like there were many good things about it's core despite Shake/Nuke having a nicer UI and being less clunky from a workflow standpoint.  Linux - yay!   They are fixing it and 9 is a great start to it being a compelling option again.

I did not renew my Adobe subscription this year.  Now, the challenge is how long I can live without it before I have to open up a recent project or do something that would save me some time in AE.  Which is getting more rare these days, for the above reasons...

Nope Teddy. I have 12+ years of film assets built in AE. AE 2014 is still working though and offers timelines features for building a multiplane that nothing else does. Despite its flaws and the terrible render downgrade of 2015/17, I could not have made a multiplane film at this resolution in this method.

 

A node based tool would be really hard to compose shots that sometimes run 8 or 9 minutes long. And it would have been available in 64bit back in 2010 when I made the final call what app to use J

Have you looked into BMD Fusion 9 Studio? Quite enjoying it. The 32 bit linear performance is incredible.

Sources are 32-bit TIFFs, 5600 x 4200 down to center cut 1080p ProRes 422. Same project file just downsaved.

AE 2017, 3 Hours and 22 minutes
AE 2014, 1 Hour 9 minutes.

There is almost no AE work here except a downscale and working space color transform. It's mostly disk bound.
