You can see i= t by having some lines in an illustrator file that is near but not exactly = horisontal or vertical.

Conv= erting the illustrator to an AE shape layer and you will get much smoother = antialiasing, but ofcourse that is not always possible if the illstrator fi= le is a bit more complex and uses gradients or some of the newer functions = of illustrator.

Shape layers if set to a 3d also have some issues with shim= mering with small slow movement, and here the solution is either as you sug= gest, force it to be a raster layer by precomping it without using continio= us rasterize on that precomp, or if you need to keep the shape layer in the= 3d comp, use the CC Force Motion Blur effect with a very high Shutter Angl= e so the shimmering will be smoothed out.

One thing I've noticed over the years is, if = I take illustrator artwork and set it to continuously rasterise.=C2=A0 if I= do any movement on it I will get a jitter on the edges.

to solve this.=C2=A0 I s= et it the layer to continuously raster.=C2=A0 scale it up way bigger than I= 'll ever need it.=C2=A0 precomp it and scale down the precomped layer t= o the size you want and do the move on that and you will end the jitters.

I know = it wasn't exactly what you asked, but it's something that drove me = nuts for years.

Subject: [AE] a question to illustrator users on = AE

1. do you use the HDTV presets to avoid cropping? (if the layer is = also outside of the canvas size) or do you just add another artboard that&#= 39;s a little bigger?=C2=A0

2. have you found that the size of the se= cond artboard in the HTDV preset of 14400x14400 makes a difference if it= 9;s that exact size that's created when you choose the preset? or do yo= u just make your own second artboard? considering the fact that the second = artboard in the HDTV preset is placed on half pixel and requires fixing eve= rytime to avoid resampling of layers and antialiasing...

the Meyers (= Hi there if you are tuning in... ) in their tutorial here explain the issue= : https://www.lynda.com/After-Ef<= wbr>fects-tutorials/Illustrator-artboards/372438/497652-4.html, bu= t they also mention that the 2nd artboard 14400x14400 is a "magic size= " is essential. "The second artboard must be this size to trigger= After Effects into not cropping off layers." I have not found it to b= e the case in my Ae versions since CS6.
