| One work around is to add a fast box blur or box blur to the layer or comp with a blur radius of somewhere between .05 - .1, and iterations of between 3-6. Depending on the combination, you can get the effect of better anti-aliasing, without noticeably blurring the image.
I do this to a lot of graphics just to have everything look a little smoother than it does without it.

The downside of shape layers (and type layers) is that sometimes you need to disable continually rasterize and there's no way to do so.
