rant on//

I’m always amazed at visual media artists with high-end computers, software and el crappo monitors. It’s the most important tool you work with and the primary tool for making final decisions on how your work looks.

//rant off

I have now NEC, Dell, AOC, HP and AOC monitors floating around the studio and have owned Apple and BenQ as well in the past.

I’ve been very pleased with NEC. Much more affordable than Eizo but better than Dell in every way (color-space support, usability, performance, reliability, quality, cross-platform support, software, drivers). I do have a AOC 40” 4K as it has insanely good on-off contrast numbers but color is questionable. But it helps me see subtle shading issues and size helps reveal flaws.

My two cents - Dell is okay at bottom of budget range for graphics/pro work as are Apple displays. NEC is sweet spot of mid-range. Eizo/FSI etc. are high end money is no object.

The AOC’s, BenQ have their place as special purpose monitors, but they lack the controls and software for proper professional color management on graphics/pro station. Dell has marginal software (I still don’t think it supports Mac yet). Apple’s have nothing hooked to a PC.

Only the NEC/Eizos of the world have proper color management software that is cross-platform, usable etc.

Stephen

I just left Fry's where they had SW2700PT on display. Interesting. I'm going back home to look up the difference between that and the PV line. Thanks for the info.

I wanted the relative new 32" HP dreamcolor, but at double the price and just having spent much much more on the amazing FSI DM240 reference monitor I decided against getting the HP and go for the Benq and haven't regretted on bit 😀

I have used HP and Dell ultrasharp before and they normally are a good default choice in GUI monitors.

I am definitely looking at BenQ. The PV270. Choking a little on the $900
price tag...but as someone once said "I've never regretted getting a
bigger hard drive, more RAM, or a finer display."

Which model BenQ do you have, Robert?

My shortlist is:

BenQ PV270
Dell U2717D
Samsung S27H850QFN (love these naming conventions)
