This is not correct and to complicate matters even more Adobe introduced a new extension format a couple of versions ago that has an even more complex install procedure that is frustrating users needlessly. Please let Adobe know on their forums ( https://forums.adobe.com/community/aftereffects_general_discussion/content) about your experiences so that they will hopefully listen and fix them. The way I understand it, there are two potential locations for plugins.=C2= =A0 Traditionally there=E2=80=99s the =E2=80=9Cplugins=E2=80=9D folder whic= h is inside the Application folder.=C2=A0 However there=E2=80=99s also the = one inside the Adobe =E2=80=9CCommon=E2=80=9D folder - a more convoluted fi= le path that is different on Mac & Windows.

Any plugins that install to the =E2=80=9CCommon=E2=80=9D folder can be migr= ated to newer versions of the software / upgrades. I think it=E2=80=99s a p= reference when you install, can=E2=80=99t remember.=C2=A0 I think that Trap= code, Red Giant, Sapphire and a few others that live here WILL be automatic= ally included in an upgrade.
