That’s absolutely hilarious. I wonder if that client ever made the connection. Thanks for the recollections – good stuff.

He was a super-nice guy (via email) to deal with so I can easily picture him hanging around a radio station.

best,

Stephen

A film is – or should be – more like music than like fiction. It should be a progression of moods and feelings. The theme, what’s behind the emotion, the meaning, all that comes later.

Well, before Mr. Adams was SUPER famous... he used to come visit us at the radio station... basically moving into the communal house next door for days on end...  fraternizing with the announcers etc because his best bud, Chris (and a really good buddy of mine) worked the all-night shift there.  There were many parties.  He had just signed to A&M and I remember us sitting around, drinking beers, and listening to the test pressings of his first album.  One day, I somehow convinced him to sing a short line on a commercial jingle I was working on.  Here's the kicker: the client said "I don't like that singer!".  So it never aired.

And neither me or my wife can remember why Bryan drove over to our house one day.  But I can still see that beautiful blue little VW bug that his A&M advance had just allowed him to buy.

Only sad part: Bryan has no memory of me.  (A friend asked him a few years ago).  But that's not surprising.  I was a nobody.  Still am. And it wouldn't be too many years before I would see him on television standing beside Paul McCartney at the Prince's Trust concert.  Hard to believe, really.

Thanks Carey. Considering how much I listened to him as a teen (and still have a few songs in my always rotation), it was a thrill.

Some shameless self-promotion. Bryan Adams released a new music video today using work-in-progress footage from the film. Turned out well.
