Let me know what you think. Also in the market. May actually grab an FSI reference monitor too, since I've been doing more color and online finishing. Really hurt on my last project not having something with broadcast specs.

What's the opinion on getting a 1080p vs 4K? Since I'm using it for color but can do QA on a 4K LCD, is there any reason to get a 4K reference monitor? Prices jump a fair amount

So is mine, but my 30ā€ Apple Cinema Display finally crapped out yesterday, so I weighed the value of the 27ā€ BenQĀ PV270 against the slightly more future-open HP 31ā€ Dreamcolor zx - $900 vs. $1330, and fewer pixels than the ACD vs. more, respectively.Ā  I ordered the HP.Ā  I should be getting it Thursday.Ā  Wish me luck.

I have a 24ā€ DreamColor already, and it’s been pretty solid.

I read some reviews on the PV270, and that looks mighty impressive for the price.Ā  The same size DreamColor is ~$300 more.

4K support is an excellent point. Fortunately my current gig is still a 1080p workflow.

Solid advice from Steve. I’m actually looking to upgrade my 2012-vintage HD Extreme 3D card for something 4k capable. It will be a BMD product.Ā

The trend to 4k has definitely reached my mid-level marketing video-driven post business.
Current project load is something like this:

Source footage: 50% 1080p, 50% 3.2k or 4k (or higher)

Finished deliverables: 80% 1080p, 20% 4k

pretty much BMD is the main survivor of video I/O cards or interfaces. I have one of their HD ultra studios with TB and it works great… but its also a discontinued product. BMD thinned out their hardware line considerably at or around NAB 2017. used options are of course out there, but I’d probably go with Ā something that does 4K at this point.
