I have been using Fusion S= tudio 9 and the keying is top notch. The new Delta keyer is fantastic, and y= ou can combine with ultimatte (their version of primatte)

The trick to keying is always using multipl= e keys and combine. It's rare one key will solve every corner of your screen=

I have often contemplated writing an article that looks at how different key= ing plugins work, there are a few basic approaches.  Keylight is my go-= to plugin because it comes with AE, however the last time I had to do keying= I was very surprised to discover that I got better results with the old AE 8= -bit =E2=80=9CColor Range=E2=80=9D keyer than with Keylight.  Go figure= =E2=80=A6 I will experiment more with this in the future.  I find Keyli= ght crashes constantly with AE 2017, which is why I have been trying alterna= tives.

Primatte works in a totally different way to Keylight, so they are likely to= give different results with different footage.  Keylight is a differen= ce keyer, and works by looking at the difference between the Red, Green &= ; Blue channels.  A more advanced version of putting a green solid on t= op of your footage and choosing the difference blending mode.  This is w= hy it only really works with green or blue screens.

Primatte is an advanced linear keyer, although I recall their marketing usin= g the term 3D keyer (maybe I=E2=80=99m remembering incorrectly).  Basic= ally, imagine an RGB value plotted on a graph as an X,Y,Z co-ordinate. = Every colour will have a different position in a cube where the axis are re= presented by R,G,B values.  Primatte compares the position of each pixe= l with the position of the main key colour, as if they are co-ordinates in 3= D space, and uses the distance and direction to calculate if the pixel is tr= ansparent or not.

Always fun to discover what=E2=80=99s happening under the hood=E2=80=A6
