Hi D,

Thanks for your response!  Much appreciated.

Looked at your two MAMs – very impressive and extensive.  First glance, seems a little overkill for us!  Can appreciate the use in an Enterprise environment.  The one thing that keeps me in alignment in all of this… is that there is NOT one perfect solution, but I want a SIMPLY one that is not overwhelming.  What you all have is very a la carte, picking probably the best from each category – I want to simplify my life… with a relatively turnkey solution (which in retrospect is not me ~ age must be playing a factor now!?!); not sure if ProMAX will accomplish that need or not… hoping someone out there has another suggestion and/or has experience with ProMAX.

Cheers,

Greg

Hey Greg,

Not scared, just busy.

I have not used ProMAX.

We have several solutions, but we’re a pretty big Enterprise customer, so these solutions might be cost prohibitive to a smaller house. Plus they are ever evolving.

We have two MAMs currently, Strawberry by FlavourSys and IPV. Both have strengths and weaknesses. IPV is fantastic with metadata. Strawberry is also a PAM and does a nice job of it. We use their archiving tools, to spinning disk and LTO.

We have multiple petabytes of StoreNext storage.

We use FrameIO for review and approval, and some file transfer.

We also use MediaSilo - not sure of the manufacturer - and CatDV.

So I can’t help you with ProMAX, but if I can help with anything on the list above, holler back. I have to forewarn you that I am an end-user, and have serious back-up with the engineering part.

Cheers,

D

Guess, I scared everybody off on my question?  I thought there would be a few users out there with a comment ‘for’ or ‘against.’  I am unable to attend NAB, but if anybody visits ProMAX System booth, I would be interested in your take on the company/solutions.

Thanks in advance!!

Greg

Sorry for the Off-Topic question, but I thought this would be a great group to ask…

I’m trying to figure out the best way to go forward with a couple of items in my production chain… better way to utilize a storage system (EVO), Episode transcoder EOL, Cache-a EOL, etc.  We are a fairly small house and I went ala carte for most of these solutions, but am considering ProMAX as a possible solution; a front-end to a smarter storage system; enabling Metadata, folder ownership instead of volume (for writing and reading), it has encoding/transcoding capabilities, also have LTO-tape archiving hardware (they bought out Cache-a).  We started a while ago with CatDV, but it has become too cumbersome for us to use, due to it being primarily for video use only, great for final products, but not so much for the assets.  We are AE users for compositing and overall productions.  We also generate a number of products with 3D software and some video capturing and editing.

What are others using for a centralized approach to sharing with other members of the team; transcoding, metadata, archiving, storage, etc.?  Anybody using ProMAX?

Thanks for your input.

Greg
