I=E2=80=99ve been freelancing for 20+ years, and 99% of my work has come =
from word of mouth, but I have slack times as do most freelancers.  =
I=E2=80=99m on LinkedIn so that I can connect with people who buy =
services like mine when I need to drum up some work.  So far, I=E2=80=99ve=
 gotten replies like, =E2=80=9CThanks for reaching out.  We don=E2=80=99t =
have anything now, but we=E2=80=99ll keep you in mind.=E2=80=9D  I =
haven=E2=80=99t heard back from anybody, but think that may be a matter =
of timing.  =E2=80=9COut of sight; out of mind."  Had I contacted people =
at the instant they had work, I might have benefitted from the contact.

Hey, it=E2=80=99s free.  So, why not take a few minutes to create a =
profile and make some connections.

As for the invitations and reminders, I create a Folder and a Rule in my =
Mac Mail app that directs all the LinkedIn messages there, which lets me =
prioritize when I look at them.  I have custom folders for my clients, =
friends, and family, and find it a useful feature.  I have a custom =
sound for my clients, too.  So, I can tell even before I look at my Mail =
app whether that sound requires immediate attention.
