Apple will no longer support 32-bit libraries and applications in the next version of mac OS. That includes QuickTime, which means we had to remove all our legacy QuickTime-related functionality in order to be able to continue to run on Mac. We've created native importers for most common formats, including PNG. Let us know if others are critical to your workflow. You can vote for us to add native PhotoJPEG support here: https://adobe-video.uservoice.com/forums/911311-after-effects/suggestions/33841261-photojpeg-quicktime-support

Strangely finding there’s no option for compressed audio of any kind either. I can understand ditching old codecs but where’s the logic there?

Shame, PhotoJpeg was a nice high quality but small file size codec for tests etc. Ah well, my render preset list just got a lot shorter.

I like their suggested workaround “For export formats, use the currently available newer codecs”  - fiendishly clever trick, wish I’d thought of that!

From the looks of the bottom chart of this page - https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/multi/quicktime7-support-dropped.html

They've tried to keep import available for most. Not sure if PhotoJpeg is included there (I see jpeg, but not specifically PhotoJpeg)

I was afraid of this when I saw the update notes about it. Looks like PNG codec is gone too. I'm out of the office right now, but could anyone do a test and see if the new AE can handle these (PhotoJpeg, or PNG codec with alpha) as imported assets comfortably still? That's going to screw up some of my previous projects if I can't use png with alpha .mov files, let alone render them.

Installed the latest update to AE and seem to have lost a load of Quicktime codecs, notably PhotoJpeg which I always liked as an intermediate codec. Did I miss a meeting? I hear QT’s been ditched on WIndows but Mac too? These are all I have now:
