Actually having just went through this we started with Frame IO as Vimeo Pro looked too expensive and I don’t’ love Vimeo either. This was for reviewing drafts and screeners of my 40 minutes IMAX film.

But I moved to Vimeo Plus as if you start uploading a lot of file and that longer in length ,Frame IO gets pretty damn expensive, quickly. And we found clients happier to use Vimeo than Frame IO which non-users resisted pretty strongly.

If you only approve short pieces and most of your user are Frame IO comfortable already, it’s a great choice. But now that I have Vimeo Pro, I’ve moved all my client reviews there as well and reverted back to free account on Frame IO as clients far prefer it even for short stuff.

A film is – or should be – more like music than like fiction. It should be a progression of moods and feelings. The theme, what’s behind the emotion, the meaning, all that comes later.

https://frame.io/ seems to be very popular for that

After years using the web to trade review and master files with clients via file sharing services and Vimeo, I’ve got a demand for a video review function from one client.  It costs 3X to upgrade my Vimeo Plus to a Pro account to get that one feature, and so I’m looking at better and cheaper alternatives.

Kollaborate.tv looks promising (more features and cheaper than Vimeo Pro, and offers a month to month plan), but I’m betting the brains on the list here will have some other suggestions I can investigate.
