| Does the text contain an expression? A quick way to find out whats going on is to select the layer and double-hit the U key to expose all modified properties. It may be that it has an opacity animator applied so you cant see the text at the beginning. If there are keyfrAmes experiment by dragging the timemarker to the end of the animation and retrying.
