Take a look AfterCodecs for rendering to ProRes on Windows: https://aescripts.com/aftercodecs/

Cineform should open inside the Adobe video and audio applications, but require conversion at the OS level.

Your next CODEC to try would be DNxHD, but I am pretty sure that it’s going to present the same playback issues as Cineform under macOS.

With the Apple’s switch from QuickTime as the system driver for time based media to AV Foundation Frameworks, we’re left with just Apple ProRes and h264/h265.

If you’re interested in learning more details, the PDF from session 606 of the 2013 Apple Developers conference is certainly worth reviewing: http://devstreaming.apple.com/videos/wwdc/2013/606xdx2xbp31zp28fdov8p0b6d/606/606.pdf

Page 29 and 30 pertain directly to your question, but you should be able to find the video recording of the session which has more explanation.

This Adobe support page covers which CODECs are now supported at the application level: https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/multi/quicktime7-support-dropped.html

(The HAP CODEC was just added with CC2019.)

Hi,

I work entirely on PC.

If I received QuickTime ProRes 4444 mov files, since Adobe Media Encoder does not export to ProRes 4444 at least not in Windows/PC, what is a format of equal quality and smaller that uncompressed, that (any) Mac person/editor would be able to accept as a delivery format?

I tried for example GoPro CineForm but doesn't open in QuickTime on their Mac.

I asked them what they can accept but in the meantime, if you are a Mac editor what would be acceptable?

(uncompressed MOV QuickTime are huge so not good)

Cheers
