The thing is, you might be able to keep working theoretically, however I've seen Aftercodecs usually pegs the CPU at 100% - meaning you're likely going to crash the system or at a minimum it'll be very very slow. Also, if you buy it for Premiere, you can export a lossless intermediate from AE and then transcode in Premiere in the BG. This is my preferred workflow anyway, since the premiere export is the fastest (I've tested them all) - Fusion is fantastic, and I use it a lot, however there are a few things to consider - Fusion's export is not meant for batching shots really, it can be a headache with more than a few shots at a time. - Fusion ProRes export is restricted to Fusion pro studio standalone which is still $300. I think it's 100% worth it, however might not be if all you need is prores. Check out Scratch pro Player instead - the audio workflow in Fusion is likewise annoying - need to manually add audio tracks per shot, shots do not come in with audio. this alone makes it not great as a transcoder.
