DNxHD should probably be considered a legacy codec by now. if you work with Avid facilities it might be an issue if they are on an older Avid MC that doesnt support DNxHR yet, and some Avids are kept at very old versions for very long. But it should normally be a non-issue and just use DNxHR, its also way easier to figure out what setting to use since Avid reduce it as Prores to a few flavors and not keep the framerate and dimensions. most of the flavour are 8bit though (another Avid legacy issue) so make sure to use the HQX or 444 versions that are 10 or 12bit
if you need to deliver non-HD res images, yes. also better alpha ch on some versions of it

Thanks.
Guess I simply haven't rendered using it. Will use it now. I presume this should be used over DNxHD?
Eric
DNxHR is built into adobe apps, resolve / fusion. QT32 is dead.

Do you have a download link for this DNxHR? I have been using DNxHD for several years.
Thanks Eric
DNxHD is limited to fixed HD res size images. feed it non HD size frames and they are scaled to fit the full raster. really ugly and stupid but that happens because it was a hardware based codec.’
DNxHR works with any res.
they work fine on win, OS X. no playback problems, its basically avids ver of prores with similar data rates and generational performance.Â
I’ve used it also as a record format on atomos products with excellent results and moved media between PP / AE / Resolve with out concern or thought.
