With the AE comp created and the footage imported I almost always add a = few frames at the head and tail of the shot (usually 30) as handles, do = my magic in AE, render a DI using a suitable mezzanine format, and = replace the shot in Premiere Pro with the rendered file. I had a project the other day that took nearly 5 = minutes per frame to render. It broke twice but I was able to pick it up = without loosing any of the previous frames because I was rendering image = sequences. I use Render Garden to render my AE comps so I never wait for renders. I = just move on to the next AE project or return to Premiere Pro and = continue the edit until the render is complete.
