I have 4 cores and usually render with all 4 and take a coffee break. :)
But always 3 if I need to keep working.
My shots are usually 4K and average 150 frames so it’s only 10 mins or so. (I’ve never really timed it, but it’s never taken so long that I’d bother looking for speed ups ) Thank you Jim. they say in the documentation you should limit your seeds to your physical cores but then they say a pro-tip - to make many seeds like 10 or more with limited gardeners like 3 so that you won't get a gardener who is just idle after it is done. I am still trying to work with it hopefully some users could contribute of their experience. I think my system doesn't have enough cores to justify hyper threading. although 4 is better than 1! Until you hear from somebody to answer your specific question about image sequences, whenever I use Render Garden, no matter how many threads I choose - I usually choose between 6 & 12, I’ve noticed that it maxes out all my cores. I use iStatMenus for OSX, and have CPU status icons in my menu bar. I have a MacPro5,1, with six cores, 24 threads. I’m probably a pretty light user of the product, and don’t fiddle with the preferences much.
