Subject: [AE] Adding handles to image sequences w/o losing existing = timing?

I'm in the middle of a nightmare project that I'm supposed= to be doing VFX comps for BEFORE the edit is actually locked.

I transcoded the current R3D selects to DPX sequences (using DaVinci R= esolve w/24 frames of handles), so I dont have to work with the original R3= D files in AE. My usual workflow is to create "source clip comps"= , by using the "New Comp from Selection" feature on the selected, imported DPX sequences. I then use this precomp as the ac= tual "footage" that I work with, rather than dragging the actual = clip itself directly into my comps.

It appears that AE does not use embedded media timecode to reference d= iscrete frames, so if I add more handles to the originally imported DPX seq= uence, the timing of the footage gets borked because it seems AE is just re= ferencing frames by raw framecount, starting from the physical start of the media.

In my ideal world, I would like to be able to add handles to an image = sequence, and then have AE automatically detect this and allow me to pull o= ut more frames on each side of the clip, without disturbing the original ti= ming of the clip, wherever its being used in my comps.

Any tips to workaround this issue?
