I guess I should qualify by saying that it’s expensive if you don’t use it very much.  I initially licensed Mocha Pro for one specific client, who has me removing logos, license plates, names on nameplates, etc. on what’s turned into about one video per month, and two or three shots per video.  It’s the kind of thing I could do with native features or by brute force (manual keyframing).

I charge by the hour, so I always have to consider whether it’s worth paying a lot of (or any) money to license a technology that causes me to bill fewer hours.  That makes no sense.  But, there’s peace of mind not tearing my hair out over repetitive uncreative and laborious tasks.   So, there’s a benefit to my mental health.

Since I license a lot of plug-ins, the costs add up.  Mocha Pro does a lot of things, and I don’t think I’ll ever need to use everything it does.

So, I guess I’ll add “Your mileage may vary.”  If I was using it daily, I’d likely not think it was expensive.

BTW, Ross, I love that you guys keep putting out tutorials on how to best use Mocha.  They’re very helpful.

For Content Aware to work on blemish removal type shot, you need to feed it a clean plate (clean painted frame). Depending on the shot, clone offset techniques might be much faster and more appropriate.

Mocha Pro’s remove module is also used for a lot of this type of work and the subscription price for the Adobe plugin is $295 for 1 year. For a professional tool is that expensive?

I’m not sure this is the kind of thing it was designed for, which IINM is to remove foreground objects from moving shots.  I suppose it might work if the faces were moving.  Then, it has pixels to look at outside of the selection area.

Perhaps the better tool for removing blemishes is to track them with the point tracker or Ae Mocha, and use the Offset plug-in with a mask to “clone” an adjacent non-blemished section of skin.

I haven’t used this feature much.  I tested it on a couple shots, and it didn’t work well for me.  About the same time it came out, I licensed the Mocha Pro plug-in, and its remove module has more controls, and worked better for what I needed to do.  Downside:  It’s expensive.

Hopefully, somebody who knows more about this than I do isn’t taking a vacation day, and can help out.

Are there any tricks or tips to using Content Aware in AE?   I have a comp which is just faces cut together in CU.  Several have blemishes to take out.  Im trying to use Content Aware on a clip.  Clip is about 14 seconds long.  UHD. 3840x2160.  I have to masks.  Its taking forever.  After 30 minutes I am only 10% analyzed.  Crash after that so far.  I dont have any other effects on the layer as I took off stabilization.  In the tutorials it seems to work fairly fast moving through a 10 second clip in real time  almost.

What am I doing wrong here or are there some tips.  I took the layer out of the comp by precomping it and am just trying to work with the layer by itself in its own comp.  But still…..

WTF?
