We’ve created a free SRT Importer script for After Effects.

This lets you import an SRT file into AE and use all the design tools to give your subtitles a specific look. For those of you with style guides or just want to use After Effects to create captions, it’s pretty cool.

It’s a free download. If you want to use the subtitles in Premiere, you need to use Dynamic Link or create a Motion Graphics Template. Either method will get the captions/subtitles into AE.

To download it or check out a tutorial video on the features, click here:

It’s meant to be used with Transcriptive but, of course,  it’ll work with any application or service. SRTs are fairly standard formats, so no matter where you’re getting the SRTs from, the SRT Importer script will work. Since the Premiere caption tool is somewhat lacking, we've had a lot of requests from Transcriptive users to use AE for that purpose. So this script helps with that. See the tutorial video for instructions on using dynamic link or mogarts in Premiere.

Jim
