Stephen,
Much appreciated. I've already reached out to Sony and confirmed what I need to do to upgrade from V12. Â
To my original question earlier, I found resolution at least in part with my AE and Element issue. Some users will understand this but essentially, the custom masks I used for about three of the "pieces" to my spaceship were the issue.
Custom masks that are extruded will not safe as a model preset. I have a work around already though, just make a cylinder in Blender and all good.
Thanks Eric
I have license for both Vegas Pro and Vegas Post (the new upgraded Suite). Those just include extra apps but it’s the same version of Vegas.
Vegas still has some imperfections (which the new team has been working on for the last couple of years) but it’s timeline puts everyone’s including FCPx to shame as audio and tracks in Vegas are in world so far beyond what Premiere/Vegas/Avid can do for turnkey
edits. Vegas is not a team workflow editing tool but for one-person shops, even if you are Mac (runs fine in Bootcamp), I can’t imagine not using it. I tried to move away in the year before Magix bought it from Sony but thankful it’s back again.

If I may have a follow up, which version of Vegas? It looks like there are 3 different versions OF V17.
Vegas Pro Edit, Vegas Pro, Vegas Pro Suite
I'm guessing Pro Edit since the second one adds DVD stuff it looks, etc.
Â
Eric,
Â
Not sure about the Element 3D question as I’ve never saved an imported model as preset but I believe presets are just for the type of item e.g. textures, models, lights etc. I don’t
think there is an entire rig “preset” that I recall off the top of my head.
Â
I still do my personal editing in Vegas (current Magix Vegas Post Pro V17). They are working hard to get the app back on track after Sony’s years of neglect and it’s coming along
well (it’s finally more stable than Premiere).
Â
You can export Premiere projects but like any translation it’s going to have it’s limited, it’s really useful for only simple timelines without effects, titles etc. It’s really
just a variation of XML exports.

Hello,
By way of this sample, I have a couple questions. I did use Blender by the way for the cone but I built this model in Element 3D otherwise (assembled I guess). I'm having some
difficulty saving the model as a preset. I know the procedure but for some reason it doesn't save ALL components. Any idea on what could be the solution?
And a second question, probably not much help here but I used to use Sony Vegas to edit and I have a project from 2012 that actually has a feature to export to a premiere file (even
saw a youtube video) but for some reason, after exporting the entire thing, it does not produce the actual premiere file like I see in the tutorial.
Incidentally, the old footage I have could prove to be a cool time lapse thing with me nearly 8 years ago and then current.
Appreciate any insight if anyone has some.
Â
What Chris says.
For simple shapes, you may want to use a a vector software like Illustrator and export an eps file for Element.
Â
Â
Learn Blender. Free and easy to learn. Model whatever you like there then export.
