I feel like I was a little harsh without explaining myself. I don't think it's actually a bad computer. There are many great things about it. But it's not really for us. Unless you need 4 simultaneous 8K outputs (you might?) and / or transcoding that many streams, it's massive overkill. Additionally, the xeon cores are great for big distributed CPU tasks like, say, rendering in Arnold, but are not good for mainly single threaded tasks like using After Effects or running a 3D software like C4D, zbrush, x-particles, etc. Most of our software still is bottle-necked by single threaded tasks. I'd much rather have 10 cores at 5.2 GHz than 24 cores at 3.0 ghz. I'd rather put the money they spent on the Ferrari-like chassis on 4x 2080ti GPUs instead. And so on. If I was running a straight edit facility with a ton of footage throughput and was transcoding / streaming 24/7 the mac pro would make sense. But your average rich hobbyist, small shop or freelancer isn't going to utilize 1/10 of this machine and you're paying for the wrong stuff.
I paid the big bucks and waited almost a year for the first Trash Can Pro only to find a top of the line iMac was pretty fast and much more reliable.
I will be waiting to see what the early adopters think about the speed and reliability vs. their money.
