Thanks,

so you suggest using normal sata SSD or M.2 NVME?

Ps: I had a look at Pujet configs and they are fitting the pc's with nvme's.

IOPS are what you want for any app thats caching frames. those are smallish 1-maybe 32mb files. use a dedicated SSD with the expectation of killing it with high write cycles, but you’ll probably still be running it just fine 4-5 years from now :)

My setup is  512gb system SSD, 1TB dedicated cache, a 2nd 512gb SSD thats still running fine as backup cache or music work. Audio is much more demanding for latency and small I/O and really benefits from a SSD once you are 40-60+ tracks in.

Hi all,

wishing a happy holiday season!

We are about to upgrade  an oldish pc, and a quick  look shows the prices of nvme-M.2 drives have dropped dramatically. Perhaps not of the top of the line 970 Evo & Pro ones but the "slower" cheaper QLC ones like Intel 660p & Crucial P1, which have reached the price of ordinary ssd drives that have more than 4x slower speeds (~ 100$ for 1TB drives).

Would they be a better choice for PR & AE  for fast I/O read and write operations  than a regular ssd and if not why? Do they degrade faster over time are meant only for read operations?
any caveat to make us prefer regular ssd's?

Thank you
